Giving Back

In the later part of 2009 I started volunteering at Town and Country Humane Society where I have met some wonderful and very hard working people who I consider friends.   This is my first experience with a non-profit organization  and it's a little bitter sweet.  This particular shelter is a "No Kill", which means when an animal is surrendered or rescued, they will remain in the shelter until they are adopted or live out there natural life.  I have learned if a dog is brought to animal control they have about 7 days before they are euthanized and have seen first hand what abuse looks like and why nobody likes to watch the TV commercials that show animals that have been abused.  I have also seen people give so much of themselves to help these animals not just find a home but a home that will work for the adopter as well as the adopted.
We are limited in our kennel space and try to do as many courtesy posts  for people looking to re-home their pets.  Due to the recent economy so many people are suffering and are unable to properly care for their pets.  This is when we try to help by offering a courtesy post, we gather the information on your pet and reason for the re-home, photograph them and post to  petfinder.com and facebook.
I love to photograph the shelter dogs because I believe the eyes are the window to the soul and I believe they do indeed have one.   I do donate $5.00 for every session booked outside of the humane society and donate my time and camera when ever needed.  If you would like to donate your time, your heart  or any other type of donation please call  (530) 865-3661 and talk to Judy Rapp.  The shelter is not funded by the state, we operate with the funds made by the Thrift store, monthly bingo night, cash donations and when we are lucky a grant.  A special thanks to the people who donate food, blankets, cat litter, treats and all the other items I might have forgotten to mention.

"A DOGS SOUL"

Every dog must have a soul, somewhere deep inside
where all his hurts and grievances are buried with his pride.

Where he decides the good and bad, the wrong way from the right,
And where his judgement carefully is hidden from our sight.

A dog must have a secret place, where every thought abides,
A sort of  close acquaintance that he trusts in and confides.

And when accused unjustly for himself, he cannot speak.
Re bucked, He finds within his soul, the comfort he must seek.

He'll love, tho'he is unloved, and he'll serve tho'badly used,
And one kind word will wipe away the times when he's abused.

Altho' his heart may break in two, his love will still be whole,
Because God gave to every dog an understanding soul!
